Many Roads Lead To FIRE

After meeting one of the founders of SippingCoconuts.com, who inspired and deeply reminded me of my reason for FIRE (financial independence, retire early), I dived into their website and realized that they did the traditional fire route:

  1. earn & saved as much as they could to
  2. invest consistently into Vanguard index funds

They did NOT get any inheritance, or lottery wins, and just kept trucking to where they are today, and in 5 months time as of writing, they will be selling everything in Singapore including their condo, to take an extended trip around the world.

They’re there, FIRE-wise.

Maybe not fat-fat FIRE, but I’d happily classify that as building and soon, living their rich, FIRE lives.

My path is a little different, maybe because as an occupational therapist, I dont earn as much as those in banking and finance, so I took also a conventional path: to start my own practice first as a freelancer by myself, and then starting my first clinic together with my wife.

Made mistakes along the way, iterate, improve, and earn some more.

Reinvest into the business and repeat.

Made more mistakes, learn and improve.

My path is my choice, and your path is yours to choose and take. Currently, I’ve taken the path of entrepreneurship to earn more, which I can then use to invest. Then, I preferred dividend stocks but after a while, I decided to pivot to cryptocurrency to increase the size of the capital, after which I will invest into commercial rental properties (think of offices, storage spaces or warehouses) and then the profits to plough into Vanguard / CSPX ETF equivalent and of course, more rental properties.

What path will you take for your FIRE journey?
