Full Circle Back To Solo Build It

It's funny and ironic...but totally not weird at all to me.

In fact, it feels pretty much like home. Like, MOM, I'M HOME!

I chanced upon Solo Build It (previously called Site Build It, which I am still accustomed to) back in 2008, that's a whopping 16 years ago at the time of writing this on 22nd August 2024.

Man, a long time ago in the world of the internet and websites.

Since then, I've gallivanted and explored:

  1. Self-hosted WordPress
  2. Wix
  3. Sanity
  4. Ghost

There's one or a few more which I cant remember for the life of me at this moment...but anyhoo, I came back here because I remember that using those, especially WordPress, distracted and detracted me away from what matters most.

Focusing on writing and content.

The heart of the matter here is that websites, be it whatever platforms that you choose, is a medium of communication and conversation.

Content, that is.

And how WordPress didnt work for me (or clashed with me) is that I would get overwhelmed by the large learning curve and the ongoing tinkering that needs to be done with the

  • APIs
  • plugins
  • updating
  • multiple attempts of people trying to breakthrough which will alarm me

Dont even get me started on designs, templates, CSS and HTML stuff.

I spent most of the time on WordPress just managing the site, without producing content or writing. It was...frustrating just attempting to fix the site and trying to make it look the way I want it to look. Ugh.

So, I decided to give up and choose what works best.

And go back to Solo Build It.

It aint the prettiest, but it works the best for me and how I work.

Less distractions, less time wastage on tinkering and fixing.

More time thinking, writing, creating.

That's pretty much the same with life, isn't it?

We get distracted with shiny stuff that seems better...but in the end, knowing what works best for us and me, and doing it, is more important that what is "seeming" versus what is actual.

Tidying up

Now that I'm back here, this is part of my efforts and focus to simplify my life. I'm tidying up where I'm spending my energies in the remaining years that I have left for God, family, children, business, money and writing.

Of course, it spills over into this site too as I clean and tidy up the frays and loose ends as much as I can (I realize that I'm not super neat freak, and my stuff are in a sort of organized mess but I know where things are, so there).

Will start off by porting in all the post that I did on WordPress (I saw on this restored site in Solo Build It that the last post was Oct 2019) but sadly, I dont think I have had much updates in the WordPress.

I cannot imagine having had wasted 5 years of my life tinkering on WordPress, dammit.
