How Do I Know If It’s “For Me”?

We may not know for sure in the beginning.

This is a more common I’m-stuck question that’s posed to me, and the simplest way to answer it is – “we don’t know” – frankly you need more data. Oftentimes, it’s a mental block where one replays the same question again and again in one’s head and it goes in a loop, in a not good way.

What fuels this is uncertainty and doubt is because of lack of data and to me there is only one way: forward to get more experience and data which will confirm for or against.

For me my solution is: do it more, do it for a longer period of time, and if it suits you ie it

  1. provides you with an outcome that is desirable, good, profitable and/or
  2. doesn’t harm you or anyone else and/or
  3. it’s required or a responsibility and/or
  4. you’re curious

then continue.

If unsure, continue as above BUT go explore. Look for alternatives, what other people do, etc.

Example #1: Should I do this ABC exercise, is it good for me?

Guiding questions:

  1. does it bring you an outcome that is desirable, good, profitable and/or
  2. does it harm you or anyone and/or
  3. is it required or a responsibility and/or
  4. are you curious

If it’s yes to 2 or more of the above, then do it more.

Example #2: Should I change jobs?

Guiding questions:

  1. does it bring you an outcome that is desirable, good, profitable and/or
  2. does it harm you or anyone and/or
  3. is it required or a responsibility and/or
  4. are you curious

If it’s yes to 2 or more of the above, then do it more.
